What is Yoga? A student asked. “Everything is Yoga,” said the teacher. One of the most inviting interpretations of the word ‘Yoga’, that I have heard. A commonly shared understanding of Yoga, having to do with stretching and breathing, while reasonably accurate, is wholly insufficient left as is. There is a great deal more to Yoga. There are actually seven ‘limbs’ of Yoga. Asana, being one of them, as broadly described above, can be a gateway into deeper life understandings. The fitness marketplace is awash with it. Asana is a common entry point into Yoga. Do it, be cautious, and observe. Yoga requires a certain level of curiosity to become integral to our daily life. It is always available to us. A naturally increasing level of discipline is helpful as one travels this road, investigating Yoga, now or when the time comes. A well taught and well-practiced Asana routine, aims in the direction of Yoga’s self-realization potential. Mindfulness becomes elevated as one learns to bring attention to the breath-work of Yoga Asana. Calming the mind, sorting life’s priorities and facing challenges. Taking responsibility for one’s own life experience and quieting our mind chatter, the world improves one person at a time. Gradually, “Everything is Yoga”, becomes the lens through which all of life passes. The master key that opens all doors.
