Communication is merely an exchange of information, but connection is an exchange of our humanity.” – Sean Stephenson Now, more than ever, this statements means something crucial to our world. The advent and evolution of AI (Artificial Intelligence), will require of us increased connection, more humanity being exchanged, not less. Technology has its own pace and human evolution must keep up, lest we find ourselves backseat drivers to the very story of human existence. The exchange and computation of information, is what AI does well. What we, and only we, can do well is to genuinely connect with one another and with our planet. There is no surrogate for this responsibility, and no time like the present for us to step it up. The world is in trouble. Our planet is in peril. The subtext for this is reflected in our growing overall dis-ease, increased daily stress and a shadowy sense of foreboding about the future. At least, that is how it feels to me at times. There are of course simple acts of kindness where human goodness prevails, and our common awareness breathes a collective sigh of relief. The practice of connecting with one another through our humanity, is a power so unique, potent and eternal, as to rival any artificial, human-designed, intelligence. Recognizing that this power to shape the world rests squarely in our hands, we must become skilled practitioners. Transactional human relationships, on the other hand, diminish the cause of humanity and should become obsolete. Breathe in awareness and connect with fellow human beings. This we can do.
